Tell us a little about your interest in HG:
George and Nancy at HG in 2014

February 2017: Having lived in San Diego, California for 25 years George Heilig and Nancy Johnson wanted to relocate to the Northeast. Searching online they found Highland Green and the rest, as they say, is history. In 2014 they signed an agreement with us to create their new home in what at the time was our yet-to-be-built Basswood neighborhood.

They were attracted to HG over any other place for familiar reasons that have drawn people here from 29 different states and counting. Lower-maintenance living; free standing custom-built homes; the integration of conservation and nature; a location convenient to services and travel; and a dynamic neighborly ambience were important factors for them.

But George, who is originally from the Netherlands and grew up in Vancouver, Canada, had one non-negotiable desire. He wanted to be sure that he could play hockey.

In May of 2016 we alerted George and Nancy that their neighborhood and home were complete. They left their jobs with the San Diego Public Health Department and a global insurance brokerage respectively, packed up their stuff and made the cross-country trek to HG in a rented RV along with their two cats.

Since moving in to their new HG home George has successfully joined several regular hockey groups in the area. And this February he became the captain of the newly formed HG hockey team.

Team HG made their debut at the annual New England Pond Hockey Festival in Rangeley, Maine, which draws teams from throughout the Northeast. Competing in the 50+ division, Team HG made us proud with plenty of goals and lots fun.

Player monikers on the back of our team jerseys were inspired by both HG player handles and by old-time hockey nicknames. They include Chunk, Chief, Juice, Taz, Crusher, Hammer, Wazz, and Roadhouse!
