HG residents and guest bloggers Dave Mosley and Andrew Masland talk about supporting those less fortunate:
Some of the things that we all cherish are traditions like family and friends sitting down together for Thanksgiving dinner. Another Thanksgiving tradition within the Highland Green community is generously supporting the Thanksgiving Box initiative of the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program (MCHPP).
What started over a decade ago as fund raising and packing boxes of food for MCHPP transformed after a couple of years to donating funds directly to the organization. This allowed MCHPP to support a larger number of mid-coast families. This year, HG residents donated over $9,600 to the Thanksgiving Box initiative, surpassing HG’s 2015 donation by almost 20%.
In 2015, MCHPP’s Thanksgiving Boxes provided the entire Thanksgiving dinner for the 517 qualified Food Pantry households who signed up. This year, the organization expects to deliver even more boxes to families in need. Each Thanksgiving Box provides the recipient with all that is necessary to prepare and enjoy a Thanksgiving celebration at home with friends and family.
The annual MCHPP Thanksgiving Drive is a clear example of the spirit of giving and volunteerism found at HG. 55% of all HG households participated. Residents give of themselves to many local organizations, demonstrating another way that Highland Green is an integral part not just of Topsham but the entire mid-coast region. We are very grateful to be part of such a community.
