Dennis-Griggs-Bowdoin-#3Highland Green is just three miles from Bowdoin College, which was chartered in 1794 and is widely considered one of the top liberal arts colleges in the United States. It boasts such historical figures and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Nathanial Hawthorne and Joshua Chamberlain as alumni.

Many Highland Green residents enjoy deep connections with Bowdoin.  Graduate Steve Loebs recently moved from Ohio to Highland Green and lectures on Health Care Policy at Bowdoin. Recently retired Bowdoin Professor, Dean and Provost Craig McEwen moved to Highland Green not long ago.

Many Highland Green residents take advantage of cultural, sports, and educational opportunities at Bowdoin, including auditing classes. The Association of Bowdoin Friends is another inexpensive way to support and be involved with the college.
