Tell us a little about your interest in HG:

We already knew we loved Maine and now we know we love it here at Highland Green too. Highland Green is the perfect place for us. Even though we live in our own house, we never feel isolated. We can’t drive out of our driveway without people waving to us. The residents come from 34 different states and everyone is so pleasant. The people here go out of their way to help others. It’s a very caring community, everyone is happy and welcoming and the transition was easy. Our furniture even fits perfectly!

“At first, I have to admit that we were a little nervous because we loved our house in Boothbay Harbor. We were boating people and we were socially active. We lived on the water with a boat dock and we kept our sailboat at the nearby yacht club where we were members. We were worried about the downsizing and that we might miss things, but I have to say that my husband and I have absolutely no regrets.

“We traded our water view for a beautiful wooded view and we love the homes here. They are all lovely and wellkept. When the sun shines, illuminating our house in natural lighting, we look at each other and say – time and time again – how fortunate we are to live here. Our Highland Green home is six years young, it was very well-maintained and you can tell that the previous owners put a lot of thought into it.

“We are also very enthusiastic about the area. Highland Green is close to shops in either direction, convenient to doctors, just 30 minutes from the airport and there are such wonderful things available to us in town.”

Juliet and Dexter enjoy Bowdoin College events, the Portland Symphony in the winter and they particularly love the Maine State Music Theatre in the summer. The Morrisons also like socializing at Highland Green’s Pub. They feel that there is a happy balance between Highland Green residents and people who live outside the Highland Green community; and although they do enjoy delicious meals there from time to time, there are many incredible restaurants in town that they also like to visit.

The Morrisons like the fact that they have access to scenic hiking trails and nature-based learning at Cathance River Nature Preserve and Ecology Center, and that they can continue to enjoy a good round of golf on the nine-hole course at Highland Green. They also take pleasure in rousing games of bridge and pickleball, they still enjoy sailing and Juliet likes to cook. Juliet was also a passionate gardener, so with plans to plant some pots this spring and possibly get back into biking with her husband, she sums things up this way…

“There is no question in our minds that we’ve done the right thing by moving to Highland Green. Change is normal for everyone. At this point in our lives, we felt we had to scale back to one house, so we chose to live at Highland Green full-time. Life is a series of chapters, and I’m certain that life at Highland Green will be a nice one for us. It’s a really good place, so good that we are trying to get our friends to move here!”
