2016 was a sensational year at Highland Green and 2017, 2018, 2019 and beyond promise to be even more so. Construction of custom homes rolls on throughout the winter and well into the future as scores of active adults from around the nation continue to flock each year to the Northeast’s premier 55+ lifestyle community. We have major development projects planned for the future.

In 2016 we updated our brand by replacing our old traditional logo depicting a duck rising out of a busy patch of cattails. Our new logo, designed by our in-house Design Specialist Brina Stairs, is simpler and cleaner. Its more modern appeal demonstrates that we are constantly evolving as Baby Boomers and generations beyond absorb our message. Three cattail sprigs are a nod to our natural setting. The simple “HG” reflects what most residents and friends call the community, and helps eliminate any brand confusion.
The Wild Duck Pub at HG is open to the public and is a popular community gathering spot. Beginning in January a major renovation of its building will take place, more than doubling its size. Our golf operation will move out of the downstairs which will now become a modern bar with ten tap lines, multiple TV’s and more. The current upstairs dining room will expand its capacity and continue to offer casual fine dining. We’ll keep you posted with more information on what is destined to become a go-to spot for breakfast, lunch, dinner and fun.
The HG golf course will continue to be open to the public and be managed for us by Harris Golf. It will be operated out of a new building soon to be constructed.
Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust (BTLT) holds the easement on the 230-acre Cathance River Nature Preserve at HG, which includes over 5 miles of well-marked trails that are open to the public anytime. The non-profit Cathance River Education Alliance operates the Ecology Center on the Preserve. The center has open hours Sundays from noon to 2 p.m. A Memorandum of Understanding between BTLT, HG, and CREA supports shared financial responsibilities of maintaining the Preserve. A new public hiker parking lot is under construction and slated for 2017 opening.
Our trusted solar partner Revision Energy has installed hundreds of solar electric panels in our community, on our HG Grounds Services building, the HG Community Center, and especially on the roofs of many of our customers’ custom-built HG homes. In spring 2017 Revision is scheduled to build the new 500 foot long HG Solar Farm and install electric car charging stations.
Complementing the incorporation of conservation, nature, environmental education, and solar into our development is Green Steps, a group of interested HG residents. Green Steps’ mission is to promote environmental stewardship in our community. Their interests include the ongoing HG community composting program, grounds keeping and landscaping, helpful environmental tips, and more.
HG resident rock band “Off Their Rockers” (OTR) formed in 2016. OTR has recently added a fiddle player, expanded their repertoire, and look forward to gigs at the Wild Duck Pub and elsewhere. Stay tuned to where and when you can come and enjoy them!
