"State of the Birds" Presentation with Maine Audubon & Fall Hike at Highland Green - September 2025

Community members, HG residents and Maine Audubon joined us at our recent Fall Hike Event at the Cathance River Nature Preserve on Sept. 13, 2025. It was a wonderful day on the preserve among friends.

We would like to give a special thank you to our volunteers for leading hikes to the river and sharing their knowledge.

Also, thank you to Nick Lund with Maine Audubon for the fascinating and fun presentation on birds in Maine.

Wishing everyone an enjoyable (and long) fall season and we hope to see you at our Annual Fall Hike next year!

State of the Birds: Decades of Change. Bird populations in Maine are continually changing. This presentation covers the last few decades and discusses which species are disappearing, which are increasing, and then looks ahead to wonder what the future of Maine birds might be.

About Nick Lund: Nick is Maine Audubon’s Advocacy and Outreach Manager. He is a birder and bird writer, the other books including The ABA Field Guide to the Birds of Maine, Dinosaurs to Chickens: How Evolution Works, and The Ultimate Biography of Earth and with articles appearing in Slate.com, Washington Post, National Geographic, and other outlets.
