September 11, 2015: With 170 Highland Green households thus far, and residents from 29 States and counting, there are a good number of individuals here who have some personal connections to the events of September 11, 2001 in New York. Many still have been or are related to First Responders around the nation. Today, the Highland Green community is mindful and contemplative about 9/11.
Highland Green resident Tom McMahon created his very own tribute tucked into the woods behind his home that few have seen. Having commuted to New York and worked at the World Trade Center site for many years, Tom decided to use his interest in rocks to honor the Twin Towers.
Tom created a sculpture with two stacks of stones that symbolizes the towers. The towers flank a pile of rocks which are capped with a large round gold hued piece that represents the bronze Sphere sculpture that once stood at Austin Tobin Plaza between the towers.
