Milestone Years for HG
We wish you a joyous holiday season, and a very happy New Year. 2017 was a momentous year here at Highland Green. Team HG is proud that we will reach over 200 single family custom built homes in 2018.
Since 2013 alone 112 new households have signed agreements to make HG home. In that same period the number of states from which new customers have relocated to HG has swelled to 31, with new states such as Texas, Colorado, Michigan, North Dakota, Montana, Indiana, Minnesota, and Washington State added to the roster.
Highland Green Holiday Spirit
With so many community-minded residents from near and far, organized volunteerism thrives at HG. And this time of year always seems to bring out just a little extra giving where needed.
Here is a great example of Highland Green Holiday Spirit: Kathy Ward recently organized a group of eight fellow HG neighbors to create 42 colorful handmade pillowcases. The creations were then donated to the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center. Each child gets their own pillowcase for their hospital stay and takes it home with them when they leave. Something to make their stay a little bit more personal.
Helping to Prevent Hunger
A nearby cause that is dear to many at Highland Green is Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program (MCHPP). This non-profit’s mission is “to provide hungry people with access to healthy food, work to improve the quality of their lives by partnering with others, and serve them in a manner that recognizes their dignity.”
Volunteering for MCHPP is a year-round undertaking for Jane Berry and many of her fellow residents. But the annual HG Holiday Cash Drive for MCHPP bolsters the organization and demonstrates Highland Green Holiday Spirit. This year’s drive, organized by Jane with help from her husband John, has broken all records.
This year’s has netted $15,890 from 100 HG residents so far. 2016 had brought in $9,565 from 96 residents and 2015 had resulted in $7,660 from 77 residents.
Serving Others Year Round
Highland Green residents benefit the area surrounding their community in seemingly endless charitable and volunteer ways.
People Plus is a nearby non-profit community center “dedicated to inter-generational community participation, People Plus supports an engaged, healthy, and independent life for older adults, while joining others to build community for all ages.”
HG resident Charlie Evans was recently named the 2017 People Plus Board member of the Year. In addition to this and his many other volunteer activities, “Guitar Charlie” is a member of the Highland Green resident band Off Their Rockers!
Come explore Highland Green in 2018; meet some of the hundreds of caring people who have moved here from across the U.S.; be a part of enjoying life and giving back to others.
