Local Education

Bowdoin College

Bowdoin is located in Brunswick, about three miles from HG. In addition to offering a full liberal arts curriculum, Bowdoin sponsors exhibits at the Art & Arctic museums and various departments offer lecture series.

Association of Bowdoin Friends

The Association strengthens the relationship between Bowdoin College and the community. Membership includes:

  • Free electronic subscription to the bi-weekly Bowdoin Bulletin
  • Free library borrowing privileges

Merrymeeting Adult Education, Topsham

MAE was established in 1978 to provide high school completion and GED testing for students, but has expanded to include courses related to adult learning interests in crafts, personal enrichment and basic vocational skills.

Midcoast Senior College

MSC offers non-credit, academic courses and educational events for those age 55 and over. You may also want to consider designing and teaching a course to share your particular expertise. Classes meet in Bath and various other locations in Brunswick and Topsham

Libraries/Research Sites

Topsham Library, Topsham

Offers selection of books, videos, CDs, activities and services such as free internet connections and links to information resources such as Ancestry.com. An active Friends group supports the library with fund-raisers and programs. The library volunteer staff will even deliver books and materials to your door. Curtis Memorial Library, Brunswick

Offers various programs and lectures open to the general public. You must be a Brunswick or Harpswell resident to get a library card or pay $75 for a card if you live outside their normal service area.

The Digital Maine Library

“The Digital Maine Library provides every resident of Maine with access to online resources that include a collection of full text articles and abstracts from magazines, newspapers, journals and reference. It also provides students, business people, public library patrons, and higher education students and educators the ability to use online learning tools. Your Topsham library card allows access.

MaineCat

MaineCat Statewide Catalog is a searchable data base that links nearly 100 library collections across Maine.  A single search scans more than 4.6 million unique titles and nearly 8.9 million items.

This built-in requesting and transaction management system allows patrons to make online interlibrary loan requests.  Library staff can make requests on behalf of their users, as well.

Minerva Catalog

Minerva is an online searchable catalog system that connects with libraries of all types from across the state. Topsham Public Library is part of the Minerva system. Please contact your local library about use.
